RFO The wait is over!

Yeah we finally got our official RFO! (Request For Orders) They say we are headed to Fairbanks Alaska! Yes you read that right, ALASKA!!! July 15th is the show date but they do say we also have been approved to show up up to 60 days early! So that could put us there by May 15th. Kenn went to his levy brief and they say it will take 2 weeks to travel there and we can also take some extra travel time and vacation too up to 45 days. So if you do the math we could leave March 16th!!! HOLY SMOKES!!! His replacement also got his orders and he is to be here by April but also has been approved to show early as well and he is planning on being here some time in March. We now need to decide weither or not to take Javin out early to travel for a month or wait till the end of the school year. We also actually need to wait 45-60 days for passports. (I know, passports are required by the military to go up there, I guess because of travel through Canada if you don't travel by way of the Barge.)

So Alaska here we come! We want to get there for summer to have time to adjust a bit better from Georgia weather to there. I was surprised to find out that even from Ancharage to Fairbanks there is such a difference in weather. I guess 600 miles really makes a difference.

Kenn has really wanted to go to Alaska and so badly so this is our chance, it will be 2-3 years. My dad says it will be like a 2-3 year long vacation. Yes I agree. We can do it for that long. It definetly will be a big adjustment. My kids really don't even know what snow is, or what real cold is. WE all wear jackets around here. The coldest we have gotten has been upper 20's and only for a few hrs a day for a couple of days. We are used to the 90 degree weather and greater. It will be an adventure yet we are getting excited about it too.

The boys are even talking about it and all the animals they will get to see. Hunter is hoping to see a penguin, I understand they have puffers there not penguins. Javin wants to see whales so it will be fun to see all the wildlife, I just hope we don't meet up with a bear or two, or a moose, I hear they are not real friendly.

Wow, how exciting. I'm hoping to take a trip to Alaska here soon from Seattle, maybe we'll be able to hook up sometime in the next couple years. Sounds like a fun adventure for you and your family. Get ready for the cold. :)

Wow, Alaska. I have a really good friend from Alaska (I don't remember which part) and she said it is just beautiful there. I'm sure it will be a change from humidity, but fun all the same. Good luck with the move - I don't envy you there!

It is SO nice to finally have something in writing. You guys will have a blast. definitely take time to see the sites along the way. It is a REALLY long drive from here to Alaska. That is where we came from before we moved to GA. It took 4 days just to get from Anchorage to Utah and that was driving hard. Thankfully we didn't have any kids either!! Good luck
